Hit the Green for Lupus Research

Partners for Lupus Research will host its second annual Lupus Research Golf Outing on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Castle Hills Golf Course in New Castle. Registration for the four-man scramble format is $70 per person.

Admission includes skins entry, continental breakfast, hot dogs and chips at the turn, beverages, and dinner at Gallo’s Italian Village. Prizes will be awarded during the dinner. Teams are asked to report at 7:15 a.m. for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Proceeds benefit research at the Lupus Center of Excellence. The outing is a labor of love for Joe and Jan Nugent of New Castle, whose 21-year-old son, Curtis, was diagnosed with lupus in 2004.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s healthy tissues and organs attack themselves. It was through treatment and new medication prescribed at the Lupus Center of Excellence that Curtis symptoms were brought under control and he could return to his college career.

“If Curtis had been diagnosed a year earlier, that medication would not have been available to him,” says Ms. Nugent. “That made us realize how very important the research is.”

To reserve your spot in the outing or become an event sponsor, contact Joe Nugent at 724-971-3174 or Tom Fabich at 724-654-3047.
